By using a mutual fund, the investment manager is responsible for running only one portfolio for the whole fund, instead of a different portfolio for each customer, which means he/ she can save time in operational procedures and spend that time doing market research. This also reduces costs because the number of transactions performed by the manager decreases considerably.
